Double Exposure Photography – Reviving Vintage
Have you ever heard of double exposure technique? Well, in case you get to the end of the article you’ll able to even make such photos yourself – all you’ll need is you creativity and some luck. Double Exposure is a technique achieved by combining two images into a single one. The technique is achieved either by taking two pictures on the same frame of the film or by printing two images on the same photo paper. When used accidentally the technique can ruin the shot. When done correctly, double exposure appears on a photograph as if one image has been superimposed over another. The result can be also achieved by covering the part of the lens and taking a shot, then covering the other part of the lens and taking a shot again on the same frame. Ideal double exposure shots can be done with a camera set on a tripod though it requires a bit of compositional skills and a bit of luck with lighting.
Tip: Its incredibly simple to do this effect with older cameras. You need to take the first picture with darker background and the second with lighter.
Some modern cameras have a “double exposure” option it overlays one shot over another. As always it’s much easier to use some computer software for this purpose like Photoshop but our today’s purpose is to deliver the information on how to create this effect without using any software.
