Kate MccGwire’s Feather Art – Intrinsically Discomfiting and Beautiful

Kate MccGwire is a London based artist who creates some really haunting art pieces using feathers in a deliberately overwhelming quantity. The serpentine feather formations she makes usually have an uncanny shape flow and invade space with truly uncommon surrealistic effects. The artist sorts and trims these feathers to envisage the very concept of beauty as something more complex. In every artwork the viewer can find different layers of meaning, cultural associations, and various mind states buried within the abstract physical form. Basically, that’s her attempt to have us rethink and reexamine our preconceptions of beauty, which may initially entice and then strongly repel or vice-versa. Contemplate her works and feel keenly this duality of our seeing, feeling and thinking – the ideas will be triggered resonating in your mind.
